1. Wear Your Life Jacket (PFD) at All Times
Always wear a properly fitted U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket. It’s not just a suggestion—it’s your best defense on the water.
2. Know the Conditions
Check the weather, wind, and water conditions before heading out. Avoid paddling in fast currents, rough waters, or storms.
3. Paddle with a Buddy
Never go alone. Stay within sight of your group and establish hand or whistle signals for communication.
4. Load Smart
Distribute weight evenly in your canoe or kayak, and keep gear secure. Don’t overload your vessel.
5. Enter and Exit Carefully
Use designated launch areas when possible. Step into the center of the canoe or kayak to avoid tipping.
6. Stay Seated, Stay Balanced
Always stay seated and avoid sudden movements. Keep your center of gravity low and steady.
7. Practice Re-Entry
Know how to re-enter your vessel from the water. Practice in a safe, shallow area with a buddy.
8. Respect Wildlife & Others
Give space to other paddlers, anglers, and wildlife. Leave no trace—pack out all trash.
🚫 Lake Superior Use Disclaimer
For your safety, our canoe rentals are only permitted on inland lakes. Use on Lake Superior is strictly prohibited, as it requires advanced skills, proper training, and specialized equipment due to rapidly changing weather, cold water temperatures, and unpredictable wave conditions.
Safety is our top priority—thank you for understanding!
